Abstract
and liver function at baseline. Moreover, propolis supplementation resulted in a significant reduction in serum levels of glucose (P=0.043), insulin (P=0.034), HOMA-IR (P=0.006) and liver fibrosis score (P=0.021) compared to the placebo group after adjustment to baseline values, changes in energy intake and physical activity. However, changes in anthropometric indices, energy and macronutrients intakes, the severity of hepatic steatosis, lipid parameters, liver enzymes and inflammatory indices were not significant in propolis group vs placebo group even after adjusting for the confounders. Conclusion: Our results revealed that propolis supplementation associated with weight loss diet for 8 weeks significantly improved glucose homeostasis, hepatic fibrosis score and liver function in patients with NAFLD.
