The effect of crocin on the oppoptosis in lung tissue of high-fat diet- induced obese male rats
Abstract
In present study, we evaluated the possible effects of crocin on appoptosis-related genes in lung tissue of high-fat diet (HFD) male rats.
Methods:
24 male wistar rats weighting 150-170 g were randomly divided into 3groups (each in 8) as follows: Control group (C), high-fat-diet (HFD), and high-fat-diet + Crocin (HFD + Crocin). In HFD groups, animals were received HFD for 12 weeks. In HFD+ Crocin group, Crocin was administrated intaperitoneally at 50 mg/kbw/daily in the last four weeks. Finally, At the end of the 12-week, animals were euthanized and pathological changes, and expression of IL-1β and appoptosis related genes in lung tissue were analyzed.
Results:
Data showed pathological changes in lung tissue of HFD groups coincided with up-regulation of IL-1β, Bax and Caspase-3 and down-regulation of Bcl-2 compared to the control group. Crocin had potential to inhibit HFD-induced changes.
