Abstract
Introduction: The stability of bonding of adhesives to dentin is reduced due to the degradation of collagen fibers in the hybrid layer by matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Inhibitors of MMPs, including galardin, can increase the stability of the hybrid layer and thus the durability of the adhesive bond. Objectives: This study was designed with the aim of investigating the effect of galardin on the durability of different dental adhesives. Methods: In this in-vitro study, 32 sound human molar teeth were selected and a total of 256 samples were used. After removing the occlusal enamel, Cutted surfaces were polished by 600-grit silicon carbide sandpaper under running water for 30 seconds. Then, the teeth were randomly divided into 8 groups based on the type of adhesive and the application or non-application of Galardin, and each of the groups was randomly divided into two subgroups (24-hour and six-month examination) based on aging. After using of Galardin in the desired groups, bonding was applied on all of the teeth. Then the entire surface of the dentin was filled with composite up to a height of 6 mm. 5000 cycles of thermocycling were used to apply aging in the relevant subgroups. Then, the teeth were cutted into pieces with a cross-sectional area of 1 mm2, and finally, the microtensile bond strength test was performed on the samples. Three-way ANOVA was used to analyze the obtained data and P<0.05 was considered significant Results: The use of galardin significantly increased the microtensile bond strength (p-value<0.001), but the interaction between the use of galardin and the type of adhesive (p-value=0.46) and between the use of galardin and aging (p-value=0.83) and Also, the interactionn between of galardin application, aging and type of adhesive (p-value=0.947) was not significant. The effect of adhesive type on microtensile bond strength was significant (p-value<0.001). Aging caused a significant decrease in microtensile bond strength (p-value<0.001) and there was a significant interaction between aging and adhesive type (p-value<0.001). Also, based on the type of adhesive, use of galardin and aging, different failure patterns were observed in the subgroups.
