Relationship between parents' perception of family-centered care and satisfaction with neonatal intensive care unit in educational and medical centers affiliated to Tabriz University of Medical Sciences
Abstract
Background: Hospitalization of the infant in the neonatal intensive care unit is a stressful experience for the family and parents. Therefore, in order to provide medical care services to the infant, it should be established by considering the family system and providing services to the parents. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between parents' perception of family-centered care and satisfaction with the neonatal intensive care unit.
Methods: The present study is a descriptive cross-sectional correlational study that was performed on 150 parents of premature infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of Tabriz hospitals in 1400. Participants were selected by available sampling method. Data were collected using a three-part questionnaire including social demographic information form, parental perception of family-centered care questionnaire and parental satisfaction questionnaire from the neonatal intensive care unit. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 21 and Pearson correlation and regression tests. Significance level was considered 0.05.
Results: The results showed that parents 'perception of family-centered care experience was negative but parents' satisfaction with neonatal intensive care unit was at a good level. The results of Pearson correlation test showed that there was a significant relationship between parents' perception of family-centered care experience and their satisfaction with the neonatal intensive care unit (p <0.05).
Discussion and Conclusion: Based on the findings of the present study, it is suggested that codified family-centered care and self-care educational programs be implemented through mass media and virtual networks in order to inform and inform families and the community. By examining and meeting the needs of the families of premature infants, positive steps were taken to promote the physical and mental health of infants and their families.
