Abstract
Title: Implementation and effectiveness of the educational multimedia package in the field of professionalism for nursing students
Purpose and background: In order to identify and deal with ethical challenges and provide comprehensive care to patients in their future roles as nurses, nursing students must have a high level of sensitivity, ethical decision-making and professional behavior. On the other hand, with the break out of the Covid-19 pandemic, the lack of access to effective virtual programs, especially in the field of practical ethics education, was felt more, so the present study was conducted with the aim of implementation and effectiveness of the educational multimedia package in the field of professionalism for nursing students.
Materials and methods: The current research is a quasi-experimental study of before and after type. The samples were students of the second semester of Bachelor of Nursing with Nursing Ethics and Professional Communication Unit in the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. According to the estimated sample size with G-power software, 40 eligible students were selected to enter the study by available sampling method. The pre-test was conducted virtually using moral sensitivity questionnaires (MSQ: Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire), Crisham's moral decision-making (NDT: Nursing Dilemma Test) and professional behavior (NSPBS, nursing student professional behaviors). Then, the designated educational program was implemented virtually and online. Two weeks after the implementation of the educational program, a post-test was conducted to measure the sensitivity, moral decision-making and professional behavior of nursing students using the same questionnaires.
Conclusion: The results of the study showed the positive effect of the education using an educational multimedia package improving the sensitivity, ethical decision-making and professional behavior of nursing students. Therefore, the educational multimedia package can be used as a substitute or supplement for traditional education in teaching the Nursing Ethics and Professional Communication for nursing students.
