Cost analysis of patients admitted with COVID-19 in Imam Reza Hospital in Tabriz in 1399

Abstract

Introduction: Covid-19 is a highly contagious viral disease caused by the acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus that has had catastrophic effects on the world's demographics. The cost of hospitalized patients with covid-19 in Iran was actually 4.5 times higher than that of outpatients, and it had a great economic burden on hospitals, so the purpose of this study was to investigate the cost of hospitalized patients with covid-19 virus In the internal and intensive care units, it is specific to these patients. Methods: : This study was conducted retrospectively and the data was collected cross-sectionally during the years 1398 and 1399 in Imam Reza Tabriz Hospital. The research community is all people who have been infected with the disease of covid-19 and were hospitalized in the internal and intensive care units of covid-19. This study is a costing study that uses the top-down costing method and all the costs of treating patients with covid have been examined from the service provider's point of view. Results: The results of this study have shown that the total costs of the hospital in 1399 compared to 1398 at constant prices decreased by 6 Percentage, while the number of occupied beds decreased by 28 Percentage in the same year. The cost spent in the intensive and internal care departments of Covid-19 is 979,992 and 1،931،369 million Rials, respectively, and the cost of each hospitalized patient with Covid-19 in the internal and intensive care departments of Covid-19 is 85,774,615 Rials and 299,449,667, respectively. the cost of each day of hospitalization of a patient in the internal departments of Covid-19 and intensive care is 11,966,423 and 30,021,509 Rials respectively. Discussion: Due to the spread of the Covid-19 virus and the increase in the number of patients in 2019, the need for manpower has increased, so that the ratio of personnel costs in 1398 and 1399, respectively, is 50 Percentage and 56 Percentage of the total cost of the hospital in the same year. The costs of 1399 at constant prices have decreased by 6 Percentage compared to 1398, but with a 28 Percentage decrease in the daily occupied bed index, the cost per day of hospitalization in 1399 has increased by 21 Percentage compared to 1398, which Considering the number and high cost of these patients, there is a need for optimal policies in allocating limited resources to minimize the waste of resources..
