Abstract
Introduction: Studies have shown that there is a significant relationship between the width and thickness of keratinized gingiva around the implant and changes in marginal bone level, which can have a critical effect on the health and aesthetic of tissues around the implant, especially in the anterior maxilla, which is an aesthetic area. Materials and methods: 10 patients of dentistry faculty who wanted the implant treatment in the anterior maxilla and had the inclusion criteria and did not have the exclusion criteria, were included in the study. The connective tissue of the palatal mucosa of the surgical site was folded to buccal with the buccal base and the rate of thickness and width of keratinized gingiva around the buccal surface of an implant was measured in three-time intervals before surgery, 6 weeks later and 12 weeks later. Based on the results of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Friedman test and analysis of variance with repeated measures were used to analyze the data. Results: The intervention had a significant effect on changing the gingival thickness. In other words, the gingival thickness after the intervention was significantly increased compared to before the intervention (P <0,001). The results also showed that the intervention had no significant effect on the width of keratinized gingiva. In other words, the width of keratinized gingiva in the pre-intervention stage compared to the next two time periods was not significantly different (P=0,368). Conclusion: The intervention increased the thickness of keratinized gingiva but had no significant effect on increasing the width of keratinized gingival.
