Abstract
Premature puberty is the onset of premature ejaculation before the age of 8 in girls and before the age of 9 in boys. Due to its main complication (short stature), there is an indication for treatment with GnRH agonists. Studies on the side effects of these drugs in adults, especially those used in prostate cancer, have shown that these drugs may cause changes in the ECG and some cardiovascular effects, but not enough studies have been done in children. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of these drugs on ECG intervals in children with premature puberty. Methods and materials: This study was a clinical trial in which children with precocious puberty referred to the endocrinology clinic of Tabriz Children's Hospital in 1398 were included in the study. From all patients, before starting treatment and then 6, 12 and 18 weeks later, ECG was obtained and PR, QRS and QTc intervals were extracted and finally the data were analyzed by SPSS 22 software. Findings: A total of 50 patients were studied. 48 (96%) were girls and 2 (4%) were boys. The mean age was 91±9 months. The drug used was triptoreline. 40 patients (80%) received a dose of 3.75mg every 28 days and 10 patients (20%) received a dose of 11.25mg every three months. Comparison of ECG intervals before treatment with after treatment showed that the drug did not change significantly in PR (P = 0.535) and QTc (P = 0.250), but there was a significant difference and increased in QRS (P = 0.001), which the post hoc test also confirmed this increase.
