Comparison of laboratory findings before, during and after Isotretinoin therapy in patients with acne vulgaris in the first 5 months of therapy

Abstract
Having a proper protocol for the number and intervals of laboratory tests of isotretinoin is essential for the treatment of acne to reduce the cost of the health care system by eliminating unnecessary tests and reducing all costs, safe use of the drug and maintaining the health of patients. The aim of this study is to comparison of laboratory findings before, during and after Isotretinoin therapy in patients with acne vulgaris in the first 5 months of therapy. Materials and Methods: This study was cross-sectionally that performed referred to Sina Hospital in Tabriz with a diagnosis of acne vulgaris in 2020. A total of 44 patients referred to Sina Hospital with a diagnosis of acne vulgaris were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and treated with isotretinoin. The sampling method in this study was census. CBC, FBS, lipid profile and LFT control tests and related examinations were performed and recorded before, during and 3 month after starting isotretinoin treatment with a minimum dose of 20 mg daily. The data were statistically analyzed and the degree of disturbance in laboratory findings and its changes in the study population were calculated. Results: In this study, the mean (standard deviation) age was 21.75 (±5.4) years. Among all CBC, FBS, lipid profile and LFT control tests before, during and after isotrenoin treatment in participants, the percentage of neutrophil after isotrenoin treatment was significantly higher than before treatment (P <0.05). Also, Total Cholestrol, TG, AST and ALT factors after treatment with isotretinoin were significantly higher than before and during treatment and also during treatment were significantly higher than before treatment (P <0.05). On the other hand, in other studied factors, including WBC, RBC, Hb, platelet count, FBS, HDL, LDL and Alk.p, there was no significant difference between before, during and after isotretinoin treatment in participants (P >0.05).
