Reliability and Validity of the Last 7-d Sedentary Time Questionnaire (SIT-Q-7d) in the adult population covered by the health complexes of Poldasht in 2018
Abstract
Abstract
Background and Objective: Sedentary behavior (SB) is an independent factor causing chronic diseases. In the related studies, it is defined through comparing sitting time with physical activity. The present study evaluated the validity and reliability of the last-7-day sedentary time questionnaire (SIT-Q-7d) in the health complexes of Poldasht, Iran in 2019. It also assessed SB among the study participants.
Methods: Using simple random sampling, this descriptive-analytic study was conducted on 290 subjects in Poldasht, Iran. The data were collected using the SIT-Q-7d questionnaire. To confirm the validity of the questionnaire, forward-backward translation method, content validity, and construct validity were used. Furthermore, the time reliability was calculated by the test-retest method and internal consistency coefficient.
Results: Our results confirmed the content validity of the questionnaire (content validity of 0.90 and content validity index of 0.80). The results of exploratory factor analysis (EFA) led to the identification of seven factors for SB as follows: eating while sitting down, doing domestic affairs, screen time, leisure time, studying books, watching TV, and attending family gatherings. The reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed by using Cronbach’s alpha (α=0.7). In addition, time reliability was confirmed by test-retest method and internal consistency coefficient was 0.9 (95% CI: 83-97).
Conclusion: Our results confirmed the validity and reliability of the Persian version of SIT-Q-7d questionnaire. Thus, it can be used in assessing SB in the related studies
