Evaluation of the inhibitory effect of Eremostachys laciniata methanolic rhizome extract on A_431 skin cell line

چکیده
Objective: Skin cancer is one of the most common form of the cancers in humans and involve numerous people throughout the world. Recent research has shown that inflammation is an important factor in the development of cancer cells. In addition, the skin is the main target of oxidative stress due to active oxygen species. Antioxidants are substances that decelerate or prevent the process of cell damage caused by free radicals. According to the reports, Eremostachys laciniata, which grows in different parts of Iran, has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and analgesic properties. Goal: In current study, the inhibitory effect of the methanolic extract of Eremostachys laciniata rhizome on the growth of A-431 skin cancer cell line was investigated. Method: Different concentration of the extracts of Eremostachys laciniata were prepared. The citotoxity of the extract and cisplatin were investigated via MTT assay on skin cancer cell lines (A431) and normal human foreskin cells (HFF). Moreover, IC50 of methanolic extract and cisplatin on cell lines were assessed.Results: The data of this study indicated methanolic extract of Eremostachys laciniata was efficient in comparison with cisplatin and reduced the the survival of cancer cell lines. On the other hand, Eremostachys laciniata extract is less toxic to HFF cells in compared to cisplatin.Conclusion: This in vitro study provided the evidence that methanolic extract of Eremostachys laciniata if combined with cisplatin chemotherapy drug, could significantly reduced the side effects of chemotherapy through decling IC50.
