Scoring of prostate center in core needle biopsy samples by Ki67 staining
Abstract
the validity of the Gleason score (GS) that reports depends on the specimen size and experiment of pathologists, so the define a cut-off or range for ki67 and report the GS by ki67 percentage range.same specimen has various GS reports. Therefore, in this present study, we aimed to investigate the association between Gleason patterns (GP) and ki67 percentage The Gleason score is the most reliable grading system of prostate cancer, which is used by an urologist for treatment options decisions and predicting the prognosis of the tumor. Methods: The Specimen of core needle biopsy of 96 patients, which previously diagnosed as prostate adenocarcinoma were obtained randomly from the pathology department of the Imam Reza Hospital, Tabriz, Iran. Then, the Ki67 Immunohistochemical (IHC) staining was performed on the paraffin blocks and the ki67 percentage and GP was assessed on each sample.
Results: The association between Ki67 and GS has been attested in previous studies. However, in this study, on all samples, gleason pattern and ki67 expression were measured and the GP was reported based on the ki67 expression range.
