Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the normal range of diameters of the frontal horn of the lateral ventricles in newborns in North West of Iran. Materials & Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted on normal term and preterm babies with a gestational age of 26 to 36 weeks and 6 days for preterm and 36 weeks and 6 days or more for term babies from March 2020 to March 2021 in Northwest of Iran. Patients were divided into 10 groups according to gestational age and each group was separately studied. Cranial ultra sound was done by a single radiologist in parasagital and coronal view through the anterior fontanel. Statistical package for the social science version 23.0 [spss] was used for analysis. Pvalue≤0.05 was regarded as statistically significant. Results: 115 neonates were evaluated 43.5% preterm & 56.5% term. The mean of ventricular index was 11.48 ± 1.56 SD terms and 11.04 ± 1.30 preterm . The mean of anterior horn width and thalamo-occipital distance 2.68 ± 0.72 SD mm terms and 2.63 ± 0.75 mm preterm , 15.44 ± 1.75 SD mm terms and 14.83 ± 1.82 mm preterm , respectively. Ventricular index was gradually increased as the gestational age and AHW is none depended to age. There was no significant difference in dimensions between boys and girls, and also between Right and Left ventricles
