Comparison of dark color coating of metal posts by different colors of zirconia core using different cements
Abstract
Introduction: Factors such as ceramic and translucency thickness and cement color, along with the type of zirconia restorations and zirconia blind thickness, affect the final color of the restoration. On the other hand, glass ionomer cement and Densply calibra universal resin cement are among the most popular cements in Iranian dentistry. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of cement type in different zirconia colors on optical properties of ceramic restorations.
Methods and Materials: This experimental in-vitro study was performed on 72 disks (12 disks in each of the six study groups). Zirconia blocks Zolid fx preshades in three colors of A1, A2 and A3, and two types of glass ionomer and Densply calibra cement were used to make ceramic discs with a thickness of 2 mm. Three groups with glass ionomer cement in three colors A1, A2 and A3, and the other three groups with Densply calibra cement in three colors A1, A2 and A3. To measure the color properties, a spectrophotometer was used to compare the colors of the samples before and after cementing. The statistical software was SPSS version 26. First, the normal distribution of data was investigated using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Abnormal data were reported as median (range). One-way analysis of variance was used in each group. Two-way analysis of variance was used to compare ∆E between the two groups. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were also used.
Results: In this study, ΔE value was less than 1 in all zirconia paint groups in both types of cements. In both types of cements, ΔE values of zirconia A2 and A3 were significantly higher than zirconia A1. In all three zirconia groups of colors A1, A2 and A3, the amount of ΔE in glass ionomer cements was significantly higher than resin cements.
Conclusion: Although the type of cement and the color of zirconia can affect the final color of ceramic restorations, but the extent of this effect is not significant.
