Effect of educational film on dentists’ awareness about management of dental offices wastes in Tabriz (2021-2022)
Abstract
Introduction: Dental waste management is particularly sensitive due to its dangerous, toxic and pathogenic agents. The purpose of this study was the effect of virtual education on increasing the awareness of general dentists in Tabriz about waste management methods in dental offices.
Materials and methods: In this interventional study (educational video), 80 dentists from general dentists working in Tabriz were randomly selected based on the year of graduation. The researcher-made autopsy tool consisted of two sections: demographic information and waste management awareness questions (15 questions) which were distributed in two stages before and after the training video. The validity of the questionnaire by 10 dentists was CVR = 0.83 and its reliability by Crombach's alpha was 0.87. The questionnaires were completed by referring to the private office of dentists and in the presence of the examiner. After receiving the answers of the first step, an instructional video on waste disposal methods in dental offices was sent to them in WhatsApp Messenger, if they did not have access to WhatsApp Messenger, a CD or flash containing this instructional video was delivered to them and The next visit was scheduled for a week later. To determine the knowledge scores, one point was given for each correct answer and no score was given for incorrect answers and questions without answers. The training video was produced by Sina Dental Science Education Institute. Data analysis was performed by SPSS software version 24 and Paired Sample T Test.
Results: The mean knowledge of dentists after the educational intervention (13.41. 1.01) was significantly higher than the scores before the educational intervention (4.12 1 1.12) (P <.05).
Conclusion: Instructional videos increase dentists' awareness of waste management practices in dental offices.
