Evaluating shear bond strength of nanofilled composite resin to zirconia using different adhesive systems
Abstract
Aim: This study evaluated and compared the shear bond strength (SBS) of zirconia to nano-filled resin composite using two bonding systems, all bond universal and G premio bond, with z-prime plus.
Materials and Methods: A total of 56 zirconia blocks (6mm×6mm) were cut. Samples were sintered according to the manufacturer instructions and sandblasted using alumina particles. Composite samples were prepared (3 mm thickness) using molds. Zirconia samples were divided into four groups and subjected to the application of all bond universal, all bond universal+Z-Prime Plus, G premio bond, G premio bond+ Z-Prime Plus for bonding to the nanofilled composite. The samples were then immersed in water at 37°C for 24 hours and thermocycled for 500 cycles between 5-55°C. For evaluating the SBS, universal testing machine and for determining the mode of failure a stereomicroscope was used. The SBS of groups were compared using Kruskal wallis and U mann Whitney test.
Results: The SBS of zirconia to resin composite using all bond universal was significantly better than G premio bond (P value=0.008). On the other hand application of Z-prime plus with all bond universal did not change the SBS (P value=0.088), however, application of Z-prime plus with G premio bond increased the SBS (P value=0.001). Using all bond universal+Z-Prime Plus results in higher SBS compared to G premio bond+ Z-Prime Plus (P value=0.014).
Conclusion: Application of all bond universal with or without Z-prime plus for intraoral repair of zirconia restorations with nanofilled resin composites, results in higher SBS compared to G premio bond. Furthermore, using Z-prime plus + G premio bond for bonding zirconia to resin composites has a better SBS compared to G premio bond.
