Career Development of the Nurses as a Preceptor in Tabriz University of Medical Sieneses

Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: In hospitals, the interested nurses have a main role in nursing students’ clinical education. Attention to the career development of these nurses that called preceptors, is more important. The aim of this study was to investigate the career development of nursing preceptors in Tabriz educational hospitals. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was performed with the participation of 92 nursing preceptor working in different wards of Tabriz educational hospitals. Sampling was done census of five centers in Tabriz. Demographic questionnaire and 36-item career development questionnaire were completed by the participants after obtaining the consent of the preceptors. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 22. Results: The highest career development scores were related to ethical items (4.14±0.69), cultural items (4.08±0.76), and personal items (3.83±0.72); and the lowest score of the preceptors ‘career development were related to organizational items (3.66±0.83), research items (3.62±0.72), and educational items (3.13±0.70), respectively. Also, there were significant differences between participants’ demographics and career development (p<0.05). Conclusion: Organizational, educational and research items are the main challenges that preceptors faced them. For improvement of the quality of clinical education it is necessary to attention these items by the nursing school managements and facilitate the relationship between preceptors and school’s faculties and possibilities.
