Abstract
Lymphoma is the seventh most common malignancy worldwide. Nowaday, the use of autologous bone marrow transplantation in the treatment of these patients has been developed, although sepsis as one of the important complications of transplantation is one of the factors related to patient mortality after autologous transplantation. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the prevalence and risk of sepsis in patients with lymphoma after autologous transplantation. Methods and Materials: In this study, all patients with lymphoma under autologous transplantation admitted to Shahid Ghazi Hospital of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences during 2016 and 2017, entered the study in full and available samples. The records of these patients were reviewed and the patient's basic information, including the age and sex of the patients, was recorded. Patients were divided into two groups: sepsis and non-sepsis. The study checklist, including demographic, clinical, patient history, and laboratory results for all patients in both groups, was completed. The obtained data were analyzed by SPSS 22 software and descriptive and analytical statistics. Results: During this study, 45 lymphoma patients underwent autologous bone marrow transplantation, of which the patients had an average age of 34.79 (+/- 49/10) and 32 patients (71.1%) were male and Thirteen patients (28.9%) were female. Twenty-eight patients (62.5%) had sepsis. Age (p = 0.113), sexual distribution (P = 0.337), height (p = 0.474), weight (P = 0.728), BMI (P = 0.414), lymphoma type (P = 0.828) =), Blood type (P = 0.0595), number of radiotherapy (P = 0.159) and number of times of chemotherapy (P = 0.75) were not significantly different in the two groups with or without sepsis. However, the rate of cell pack receiving in the sepsis group was significantly higher (P = 0.038). The number of platelet units received in the group with sepsis was significantly higher than the group without sepsis (P = 0.017). The ESR level on the 5th and 10th day before transplantation in the group with sepsis was significantly higher than the control (P = 0.077 and P = 0.008, respectively). The multiple logestic regression test showed that among the variables that were significantly different between the group with sepsis and without sepsis, only the number of injectable platelet units (P = 0.031) and uric acid - -5 day of transplant (P = 0.036) were significant. They were connected despite Sepsis. Age (P = 0.214), gender (P = 0.483), blood type (P = 0.996), and lymphoma type (P = 0.720) were not associated with patients with sepsis.
