Resistance changes in maternal ophthalmic arteries with umbilical arteries and fetus Middle Cerebral Artery in pregnant women with preeclampsia

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the changes in maternal ophthalmic artery resistance with umbilical arteries and fetal MCA in pregnant women with preeclampsia. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 75 pregnant women between 20 and 38 weeks of gestation were included in the study according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and preeclampsia according to the ISSHP criteria based on the incidence of new hypertension after 20 weeks of gestation. And the presence of at least one case of proteinuria, organ disorders, placental uterine disorders was defined. Doppler of maternal ophthalmic arteries, umbilical arteries and fetal MCA were performed and Doppler criteria including EDV, PSV, RI, PI and S/D Ratio were determined. Results: The mean age of the pregnant women was 29.84±7.39 years and the mean gestational age was 31.84±4.23 weeks. Evaluation of color Doppler findings of the maternal ophthalmic artery showed that there was a direct correlation between RI (r=0.412; p=0.001), EDV (r=0.279; p=0.015) and S/D ratio (r=558; p=0.001) between the maternal ophthalmic artery and the umbilical artery; However, no correlation was observed between maternal ophthalmic artery color Doppler indices and fetal MCA. The color Doppler values of PSV, PI, RI, EDV and S/D ratio of the maternal ophthalmic artery were 59.78±23.56, 1.35±0.55, 0.73±0.15, 19.80±11.92, 3.67±1.65; respectively.
