Abstract
One of the new treatments in the treatment of blindness due to diabetic retinopathy is the use of anti-VEGF drugs. Which is injected into the vitreous of the eye. The findings show that one of the side effects of intravitreal injection is increased intraocular pressure, which can affect visual acuity and optic nerve damage. So far, no study has been performed on the effects of anterior ocular evacuation along with the use of anti-VEGF drugs on vision and optic nerve atrophy and vision-related factors in general in patients with diabetic retinopathy. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to evaluate this therapeutic effect in patients who refer to Tabriz Charity Hospital with diabetic retinopathy Methods: In this retrospective descriptive study, 73 patients with a diagnosis of retinopathy in the period from October 1997 to March 1997 were included in the study by census. Patients were randomly divided into two groups based on case number. All patients received anti-VEGF injections into the vitreous in both eyes. anti-VEGF are placed in the vitreous. The eyes of other patients are considered as controls. The process of draining the AC liquid is one turn and 0.2cc of liquid is removed in each turn. Patients were examined once before the procedure and then immediately after the procedure, two weeks after the procedure to evaluate the desired parameters. The relevant information was then collected and analyzed by SPSS software version 22. Results: The visual acuity in the intervention group (people whose right eye was AC) and control (left eye of the same people) were 2 (1-3) and (1.5-5.75), respectively, based on the Mann-Whitney test. There was a statistically significant difference in the visual acuity of the right eye between the intervention and control groups. For the left eye, 34 patients underwent fluid drainage from the anterior chamber of the eye, while for 39 of them, no such intervention was performed. The mean age of the intervention group was 5 years longer than the control group and the mean duration of diabetes in the intervention group was 6 months longer than the control group, which was statistically significant. The visual acuity of the left eye in the intervention and control groups was (2-4) 2 and (2-5) 4, respectively. According to Mann-Whitney test, there was a statistically significant difference between the visual acuity of the left eye in the intervention and control groups. Most optic nerve atrophy was not observed in most patients. The severity of visual acuity in the eyes of patients who underwent fluid drainage from the anterior chamber of the eye was high in most patients.
