Predictors of Uncontrolled Blood Pressure in Hypertensive Patients in Rural Areas of Salmas County

Abstract
Introduction & Objective: High blood pressure is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and is the most important health problem and premature death worldwide. The aim of this study was to compare personality traits and other predictors of controlled and uncontrolled blood pressure in Iranian patients with hypertension. Method: This case-control study was performed in Salmas city, West Azerbaijan province, Iran.A total of 441 participants with a diagnosis of hypertension were admitted to primary health care centers randomly from August 2016 to February 2017. We enrolled 220 cases (49.9%) as cases and 221 cases (50.1%) as controls. Data were collected using a questionnaire, questions related to participants' social and demographic characteristics, Ten Personality Questionnaire (TIPI) and IPAQ. Findings: Among 441 patients participating in this study, 310 (٪ 70.3) women, (52.6) 231 cases over 60 years of age, 287 (٪ 65.1) illiterate and (80.3 ٪) 354 married They were. There was a significant difference between age over 60 years, smoking, high body mass index and waist greater than 90 based on the results obtained and uncontrolled blood pressure.Patients 'income and patients' jobs were ineffective in controlling their blood pressure. According to the results, fruit consumption and not consuming too much salt were effective in controlling blood pressure and the consumption of vegetables, fast food and dairy products had a significant relationship with Blood pressure control was not observed. Multivariate regression showed that personality ( (0.93, 0.75) CI: 0.84 P = 0.001,) and alertness (P = 0.001, (0.95, 0.73) CI OR: 0.85), low physical activity, older age equal to 60 years (P = 0.002, (3.32, 0.98) CI: 1.81: OR) and obesity (P = 0.045, (71) 2, 1/1) (CI 1.65: OR), smoking (P = 0.009, (3.34, 1.42) CI 2.32: OR) and non-consumption of fruits (P = 0.016, (17.70, 1.35) CI (3.50: OR) were predictors of uncontrolled blood pressure in patients with hypertension (P <0.05). Conclusion: In this study, traits such as age, nutrition, personality traits and physical activity were effective in controlling patients' blood pressure. By strengthening some personality traits and also increasing the amount of physical activity of patients who are physically inactive, an effective step was taken to control blood pressure in these patients.
