Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the pharmacological methods such as alendronate administration of bisphosphonates and its effect on osteopenia in patients.
Materials and Methods: In this study, 30 patients with acute leukemia were prescribed alendronate for six months with the chemical compound alendronate sodium and its effect on bone density by scanning bone densitometry and blood levels of calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D and alkaline Phosphatase.
Results: After receiving alendronate, Z-score of lumbar vertebrae was 1.14 before 6 months, which after 6 months Z-score was 1.21 with (P = 0.409), which made a statistically significant difference. Did not. As a result, alendronate did not affect the incidence of acute leukemia osteopenia.
