Abstract
The discolouration of composite restorations are caused by several internal and external factors. Mouthwashes are one of the factors that change the color of composites. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different types of mouthwashes on the color stability of xtrafil resin composites. Materials and Methods: In this in vitro study, 32 specimens of A2 bulk fill composite were prepared with 1 mm of thickness in mold made of stainless steel. After preparation, the composite specimens were incubated in artificial saliva for 24 hours. Then randomly divided into 4 groups to be exposed to mouthwashes Irsha, Benser, Kens, VI-one. The initial color of the specimens was measured after drying them with paper towels using CIELab system and spectrophotometer by placing the specimens in front of a white background and measuring 3 parameters L, a, b. The specimens were then immersed in mouthwash for 12 hours at 37 ° C. This period was equivalent to 2 times daily use of mouthwash for one years. The color values after exposure were evaluated using the same spectrophotometer and ΔE was calculated according to the relevant formula. Data were analyzed by SPSS.20 software and ANOVA test. Results: The mean ΔE was 2.57 ± 1.43, 2.87 ± 1.67, 2.87 ± 0.83 and 1.77 ± 0.85 for Irsha, Kens, Benser and Vi-one mouthwashes respectively. There was no significant difference between ΔE values of four mouthwashes. Conclusion: The effect of Irsha, Benser, Kens, Vi- one mouthwashes on the color stability of bulk fill composites was similar.
