Evaluation of knowledge, attitude and practice about vitamin D and its determinant factors in patients referred to outpatient clinics of physical medicine and rehabilitation of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences
Abstract
Vitamin D deficiency is becoming a global epidemic that despite increasing, if left untreated and increased treatment options, it is still not controlled and untreated. this study has been performed for evaluation of knowledge, attitude and practice about vitamin D and its determinant factors in patients referred to outpatient clinics of physical medicine and rehabilitation of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences.
Methods
This is a descriptive cross-sectional study in which the community includes all the patients refered to clinic of physical medicine and rehabilitation of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences.
Sampling was done in an accessible method. Data collection was a scientific questionnaire, attitude and practice about vitamin D KPAP-38 and was completed by 240 patients referred to clinics. SPSS software version 17 was used for statistical analysis of data. Descriptive statistical methods (frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation) have been used to describe the variables. Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilkes tests were used to investigate the distribution of quantitative data. Spearman correlation test was used to determine the relationship between the scores of knowledge, awareness and attitude of the subjects and also the quantitative demographic variables. Mann-Whitney test and Kruskal-Wallis test were also used to compare quantitative data in two to several groups. Chi-square test was used to compare non-quantitative data such as gender, education and occupation.
Results
Among the people studied, 122 were women and 118 were men. 55/8 %had good general knowlage and 57/1 percent had good nutritional knowledge. 54/2% of them had good attitude and 58/3% had good practice. Average score for general knowlage, nutrition knowlage, attitude and practice in order was 80/51±14/76, 32/51±23/86, 71/58±12/9 , 56/11±11/29. The determining factor in having higher general knowledge is having higher education. not having choronic disease, not using medicine and younger age is determining factor in having higher nutritional knowledge. There is no determining factor for attitude. Being older, being a man, being underweight, using compelement that affect people's practice about vitamin D.
