Ethiology of Pancytopenia at Tabriz Shahid Ghazi Hospital from 2015 to 2016
Abstract
Pancytopenia including reducing third category of peripheral blood cells, including erythrocytes, leukocytes and platelets is. Pancytopenia caused by a whole range of diseases that can lead to a diagnostic conundrum and can manifest a drug reaction to a life-threatening disease such as aplastic anemia and leukemia.
The aim of this study was to investigate the causes of pancytopenia to the age and gender of patients.
Materials and Methods:
in this cross-sectional study of patients with moderate and severe asthma pancytopenia criteria in CBC H1 (Complete Blood Count) contains WBC count less than 4,000 mL, platelet count less than 150000 ml and the number hemoglobin less than 12gram per deciliter in women and less than 13 gram per deciliter in men who underwent aspiration and biopsy of bone marrow and peripheral blood smera have been entered into the project. Patients with pancytopenia prior to the chemotherapy or radiation have been excluded from the study. The patients during daily visits to the hospital were identified and the age and sex and their final diagnosis were submitted in the data form and at last statistical analyzes were performed.
Results:
133 patients participated in this study. The most common causes of pancytopenia were: megaloblastic anemia (30%), acute myeloid leukemia (AML) (21%), acute lymphoid leukemia (ALL) (10.5%), and aplastic anemia (7/5%). the mean age of 47.35 years, with a standard deviation was 17.62. Also, 66% of patients were male and 34% of patients were female.
