Abstract
Cancer incidence in human being has been leads to a variety of research especially in the field of medical sciences. Objective: In this study we show that Eremostachys lacinatas extract acts as tumor inhibitor in mouse skin. Method & Material: The back hairs of Female Albino Swiss mice were removed with a Moser and shaving cream and after 24 hours, the desired substances Eremostachys laciniatas extract and ferric nitrilotriacetate (Fe-NTA) as pretreatment were applied to their skin. The skin of mice were initiated by a single topical application of Dimethylbenze (a) anthracene (DMBA) (40g/100l acetone/mouse), after 7 days, animals were promoted by topical application of croton oil (1mg/200l acetone/mouse) twice weekly for period of 28 weeks. All the groups of animals were observed for tumor incidence. Results: By week 10 th, the first tumor was observed in the group of animals receiving ferric nitrilotriastetate, plus Dimethylbenze (a) anthracene and croton oil. However, in the group that also received this extract, a tumor was observed in the week 13 th. In the next group that received Dimethylbenze (a) anthracene and croton oil, the tumor was observed in the week 18 th and in the group that also received the extract, the tumor was observed in the 21st week. Also both number and percentage of tumor incidence significantly were lower in group receiving plant extrarct various intervals of times. Conclusion: Eremostachys laciniatas extract (with DMBA and Croton oil) has the ability to inhibit the tumor rate compared to the use of Fe-NTA, in addition to DMBA and Croton oil. Eremostachys laciniatas extract have the greatest anticarcinogenic effect. However, the exact mechanism of antitumorigenic of Eremostachys laciniatas extract remains elusive and needs further experimentations.
