Study of mental health in aged population of Tabriz
Abstract
With respect to the points explained above, the increase of the elderly population in Iran, and the importance of their mental health in enhancing the quality of life and health, this study is designed in order to pave the way for carrying out the proper plan by determining prevalent psychiatric disorders and important psychological problems.
Materials and methods:Type of this Study Is Cross-sectional Cluster sampling has been used for determining the samples. In the study, 150 clusters, each with 20 families inside them, have been selected randomly, based on the results of the population census and the clusters of the previous health surveys. All of the old people in these 150 clusters have been considered in the present study.
All of the statistical analysis has been done by the 21st version of the SPSS software. In all of the statistical analysis it is assumed that a=0.05. The prevalence of psychiatric disorders is calculated as the ratio of the number of known cases to the total elderly population. To present the findings of quantitative variables, central and dispersion measures have been used. Percentages are used to analyze qualitative data. To compare prevalence in educational groups, age groups, and so on, The Chi-square statistical test has been used. In this study, we used two types of open-ended and closed-ended questions to identify confounding variants.
Following identification stage, we attempted to control them through either eliminating these variants from research or including them as independent variants. In order to have clean and reliable results we used a proper statistical method to identify confounding variants during this researc.
Result:1000 subjects older than 60 were interviewed in this study. 43.9(454) percent of the subjects were men, and 56.1(581 person) percent of them were women and 38.5 percent of the elderly had at least one mental disorder, and this index was 47.2 percent among women and 27.3 percent
