Factors influencing selection of orthodontist by patients referring to orthodontists’ offices in Tabriz
Abstract
Background: Increasing the number of patients referred to orthodontics and increasing the number of orthodontists creates a new challenge in seeking treatment. Because with the expansion of service centers, the demand for better quality also increases and makes it difficult for people to choose. Among these, several factors are involved in attracting a patient to the orthodontist's office, and the different conditions of each society in terms of economic, social and health change the importance and priority of individuals. Therefore, the present study was designed to investigate the various factors influencing the patient's choice of orthodontist (consumer and provider factors).
Methods: In this descriptive study, 384 patients referred to orthodontic clinics were studied and the factors influencing the choice of orthodontist in them were questioned. The questionnaire was a researcher-made questionnaire. Which is adapted from an external questionnaire. The questionnaire was delivered to the patients in the visit session and after completing, it was delivered in the same session. After collecting the questionnaires, the data were finally analyzed using SPSS statistical software.
Results: The results of the study showed that the orthodontist's experience and work experience along with his reputation among the clients, kindness and attention to the client in the visit session and full explanation to the client about the treatment and its process, introduction through another dentist, Friends and acquaintances or other clients, how the orthodontist treats the staff and the cleanliness of the office, the use of the treatment method appropriate to the condition of the teeth and finally facilitating the payment conditions for treatment were the highest priorities of individuals in choosing an orthodontist.
Conclusion: The present study concludes that some factors and priorities have a high impact on the choice of dentist. The knowledge of these priorities and reasons for patients to choose a dentist, can be a used in marketing strategies by dentists.
