determining of coverage of screening and early diagnosis of breast cancer program in Maragheh, Iran
Abstract
Introduction: Breast cancer screening programbegansince of 2010, initality its pilot in four cities, including maragheh and after one year, it gradually developed nationally. The purpose of this study is to determining of coverage of program in Maragheh city and compares the achievements of the program with the desired and expected results.
Method and Material: The study population included all women aged 30 to 69 years in Maragheh University of Medical Sciences during 2017. The Sampling was by census method. The data collection checklist was prepared, adjusted and used through a review of articles, the opinion of experts and accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Health, including program evaluation and diagnostic indicators.
Results: From 46973 women of target group with screening conditions in the Maragheh 15,392 people participated in the screening program. The number of suspected suspects was 783 (47.9% in urban and 52.1% in rural). In general, the coverage of the screening program was appropriate (32.7%). And 9 cases of malignant breast disease and 41 cases of benign breast disease were identified.
Conclusion:According to the results of the study, the health system has been very successful in identifying new suspected cases but there have been problems in tracking people about delivering services from specialized level. Finally, the identification of high rates of malignant masses is a significant achievement of the program, certainly if the program continues; the mortality rate from this disease will be greatly reduced.
