Studying the current status of electronic prescription and dispensing in Tabriz and comparison with international models
Abstract
Introduction: Paper-based prescriptions are associated with prescribing and dispensing errors. There are currently versions available between the paper and electronic prescriptions. Using the electronic prescription cause saves time, increas patient safety, improves services too them and reduces costs.
Objective: determine the current status of electronic prescription and dispensing in Tabriz social security Hospitals and comparison with international models.
Methods: The present study is a cross-sectional descriptive study and the statistical population is available as a sample and questionnaires designed by 38 physicians (32) and pharmacists (6) in 29 Bahman and Aali Nasab hospitals were completed. Data were analyzed using spss25 software
Results: The results showed that the use of Electronic prescription system by pharmacists and physicians of Tabriz social security Hospitals reduces drud treatment errors, useful for organizing drug information, improves drug delivery due to availability of the patient's medical records and reduces costs. But there is no consensus on saving time. More than half of the respondents believe that working with electronic prescription software is comfortable and it reduces physical contact and transmitting various diseases and easy communication with insurance. But, it is necessary to consider measures in updating the electronic prescription software. The results of the present research is in most cases consistent with research conducted in other countries.
Conclusion: The use of Electronic prescribing has reduced medication errors, reduces costs, improved medication by accessing medical records and organizing drug information. To get the most out of Electronic prescription system, we need to strengthen the infrastructure such as the internet, update regulary and creat a single system for electronic prescribing.
