Abstract
Regarding the safety of Ondansetrone compared to other anti-shivering drugs, its lower side effects and the contradictory results of its use in the prevention of postoperative shivering, the present study aimed to evaluate the effect of preoperative intravenous administration of Ondansetrone on shivering Anesthesia was performed in gynecological surgeries. Materials and Methods: This randomized clinical trial study was conducted with the participation of 100 women (using the sample size formula) who were selected by available sampling method (in 2019). Patients were randomly divided into two groups. The intervention group received 2 ml (8 mg) of ondansetrone and the control group received 2 ml of normal saline. The shivering intensity of each patient was recorded according to the shiver severity criterion (PAS) and Data were analyzed by SPSS software (version 22) at the significant level P <0.05 with X2 test. Results: Comparison of the number of people with shivering after anesthesia indicated that 6 (12%) of the ondansetrone group and 21 (42%) of the control group had shivering intensity greater than three. Statistically significant (P = 0.001).
