The Effect of Participatory Decision Making on Satisfaction with the Choice of Menopausal Symptoms Management in Women: A Quasi-Experimental Study

Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: Menopause can be annoying for women due to various symptoms such as hot flashes, sexual disorders, etc. Hence, women may be challenged during this period to decide on the appropriate solution to alleviate the symptoms. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of the effect of participatory decision making on satisfaction with the choice of menopausal symptoms management method in postmenopausal women. .Methods and Materials: The present study was a quasi-experimental study that was performed on 44 postmenopausal women aged 45 years and older. In the intervention group, individual counseling sessions based on participatory decision making were presented. Before and 4 weeks after the intervention, demographic and obstetric questionnaire, Green menopause symptoms, knowledge of menopausal symptoms management methods, participatory decision making, conflict and satisfaction by interview method. completed. Independent t-test and ANCOVA were used to analyze the data. .Results: The results of this study indicate that after using the decision aid in the intervention group, the mean score of participatory decision-making, with a mean difference of 11.5 with a 95% confidence interval and (7.34 to 15.64), (P <0.001)], decision contradiction, with [mean difference: -17.78 and with 95% confidence interval and (-19.97 to -7.63), (P>0.001)] and satisfaction From the decision (regret of the decision), with [mean difference: 2.55 with confidence interval: 95% and (-1.64 to 0.64), (P = 0.03)] and average score of knowledge of product use Normal, with [mean difference of 2.44 with 95% confidence interval and (0.93 to 3.94), (P = 0.002)] which were significant compared to the control group. And the mean score of menopausal symptoms, [mean difference -1.35 and 95% confidence interval and (4-6 to 1.9), (P = 0.4)] and knowledge of hormone therapy, with [mean difference: 3.4 with 95% confidence interval (1.01 to 5.75), (P <0.006) which was reduced compared to the control group but were not significant. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it can be said that the use of decision help can be an effective method in making a decision in accordance with the values of individuals and based on understanding the advantages and disadvantages of each method. Counseling with decision help booklets for postmenopausal women should be considered as an important step in promoting women's health.
