Comparison of the Active Phase of First Stage and Second Stage Duration in Nulipars Women with and Without Remifentanil Analgesia
Abstract
Nowadays, as there are many risks with cesarean section, natural delivery method is highly recommended to avoid cesarean risks. Different methods of analgesia are used to reduce the pain of natural childbirth. Epidural analgesia is concerned as the gold standard for analgesia, but in some cases it has been contraindicated. In these cases, remifentanil can be a proper alternative. Therefore, it is necessary to study this analgesic method, to evaluate its disadvantages and benefits.
Materials and Methods: In this study, we randomly assigned 120 healthy and term pregnant women (Nulliparous) who received induction, in two groups (n = 60: who received remifentanil analgesia) and (n = 60: who has labor without remifentanil analgesic). This cross-sectional study was performed to compare the duration of the active phase of first stage and second stage with and without remifentanil analgesia in nulliparous women that were undergoing the induction.
Results: There were no significant difference in the duration of the active phase of first stage and second stage, Apgar score in 1 and 5 minute, Overall rate of cesarean section between two groups, and there were no maternal complications with remifentanil.
