The relationship between self-care and quality of life in patients with type II diabetes referred to educational hospitals of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in 1395

Abstract
Backgrounds: Diabetes type II is the most common diseases of endocrine glands. Chronicity of the disease and its complications lead to disability and mortality of many people and impose financial burden to societies and reduce the quality of life. So this study aimed to determine the relationship between self-care and quality of life in patients with type II diabetes. Methods:This study is a cross-sectional study that conducted on 310 patients with type II diabetes with convenience sampling in the city of Tabriz in Iran. Self-care and quality of life data were collected through Tuvbert and Glasgow and SF-36 questionnaires, respectively. We analyzed data by SPSS software version 21 (mean and SD, frequency and percent, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis test and Spearman correlation). Results: Our findings showed that the mean of self-care and quality of life were (42/61±14/63) and (51/53±73/25), respectively. Also our findings showed no significant correlation between self-care and quality of life (P=0/65) but there was significant correlation between physical activity and insulin injection with quality of life (P<0/05). Self-care was significant Correlation with age and the number of hospitalization days and also had significant relationship with education, employment status, type of admission and suffering from other diseases (P<0/05) but there was no significant relationship between Sex, marital status, economic status, duration of disease and self-care (P>0/05).Also there was significant association between quality of life and education, age, number of hospitalization days, type of admission, duration of disease and employment and economic status (P<0/05) but there was no significant association between sex, marital status and quality of life (P >0/05). Conclusion: with considering aging of population and high prevalence of diabetes and low mean score of self-care in many dimension, especially in physical activity, and impact of diabetes on quality of lifeproposed policy makers and health managers get interventions and practical programs in order to improve of self-care ability of diabetics patients.
