Abstract
Congenital glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that is traditionally characterized by increased intraocular pressure (IOP). Since most of the patients have corneal opacity, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of corneal opacity and to determine the clinical features and consequences of corneal opacity in patients with congenital glaucoma. Materials and Methods: In this study, patients with congenital glaucoma who referred to Tabriz Nikukari Center between the ages of 2002 and 2017 and underwent glaucoma surgery were included in the study. Patients' information was collected using a retrospective method and patients with a history of glaucoma surgery and the need for reoperation and other ocular abnormalities and comorbidities such as cataracts and also excluded from the study. Data on age, sex and values of IOP variables before and after surgery, prevalence and severity of corneal opacity, horizontal and vertical corneal diameter after surgery Patients' medical records were extracted and the relationship between severity of corneal opacity, IOP level before Surgery and postoperative IOP were assessed. Results: The number of participants in this study was 67. Of these, 42 were male and 25 were female. Out of 67 patients, 45 had biocular involvement and in 22 patients, monocular involvement was recorded. This number was examined 56 cases of right eye and 57 cases of left eye. The frequency distribution of the degree of corneal opacity showed that 38% of the subjects had no corneal opacity and 62% of the sample had corneal opacity. Preoperative IOP is lower among patients with clear cornea (20.69 ± 8) than patients with corneal opacity (23.75 9 9.2) (P = 0.07), mean postoperative IOP is also higher in patients with clear cornea (14.16 5. 5.1) Was less than patients with corneal opacity (16.57 5. 5.7) (p = 0.02). Mean preoperative IOP (p = 0.00) and postoperative IOP (P = 0.03) were significantly different between degrees of corneal opacity (p <0.05) but mean CHD, CVD and CDR before and after surgery between the two groups of patients with and without corneal opacity, there was no significant difference. The mean of IOP and CDR 6 months after surgery, compared to before the intervention, decreased significantly at 95% confidence level (P <0.05).
