Study the knowledge of family physicians and physicians working in health centers and private clinics regarding correct use of OCPs
Abstract
Rapid or volcanic population eruption is actually blamed as the most hazardous problem in current era by the scientists, leading to widespread consequences for human being by increasing the needs of societies in different aspects. One of the solutions is the birth control which is aimed at preventing population rise, ensuring wanted conceptions, and diminishing high risk pregnancies. Oral contraceptives(OCPs) are among the most common and favorable methods in this regard in different societies.
Aim
The aim of this study was assessing the knowledge of family physicians(FP) and physicians working in health centers(CP) and private clinics(PP) regarding correct use of OCPs in Tabriz city.
Methods & Materials
In this analytic-descriptive setting, knowledge of 50 FP, 50 CP and 50 PP involved in care giving associated with OCPs in Tabriz City(50 subjects in each group) were enquired by a standardized knowledge-evaluating questionnaire. Finally rates of correct answers were compared between three groups.
Results
The age range of(FP) were 36.22 ± 6.68(51-26) years, The age range of(CP)were 37.36 ± 6.87(54-28) years and the age range of(PP) were 39.70 ±7.90(59-26) years, respectively. in(FP)(24%) were male and(76%) were female. In(CP),(20%) were male and(80%) were female. In(PP),(42%) were male and (58%) were female.
Conclusion
Knowledge of physicians in three groups were not as high as it was expected and there were consultation despite lack of knowledge and also lack of consultation despite existence of the related knowledge. Educational courses for them seem necessary. in order to better administer the policy should be made with consideration of the patient's condition to raise awareness in order to take action to improve patient about prescribing the right medication .
