Study of CT Scan Manifestations in Meningitis Patients and Complicated Ones at Children Medical Center of Tabriz in 2015-18
Abstract
Meningitis in children is associated with many complications, so finding a way to predict these complications and take early measures to prevent the progression of complications and treatment of them seems to be very valuable. Due to the unknown relationship between brain CT scan findings in patients with meningitis, prognosis and complications of this disease, we decided to present the present study with the aim of examining brain CT scan findings in patients with meningitis and complications. That and whether, according to the findings of brain CT scan, we can predict the complications of this disease early or not; to do it in Tabriz Children's Medical Center in the years 2015-18.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2020 by reviewing five-year cases (including 100 cases with the approval of the supervisor) of children with meningitis with bacterial meningitis priority in the children's hospital (Tabriz-Iran) in 1993-93. ) Were hospitalized, was done. The results of CT scan and disease complications were recorded in the instrument designed by the research team and analyzed in SPSS Ver22 statistical software with relevant tests. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant.
Results: The study of clinical symptoms of the participants indicated that the four symptoms of fever (88% -88 people), nausea and vomiting (36% -36 people), headache (27% -27 people) and seizures (25% - 25 people) Were the most common symptoms; The results of CT scan interpretations also showed that cerebral effusion in 16 patients, hydrocephalus in 7 patients, diffuse cerebral edema in 7 patients, and brain atrophy in 4 patients were observed. There is a statistically relationship between meningitis complications including learning impairment, epilepsy and hearing loss with the results of CT scan interpretation including symptoms of cerebral effusion ,diffuse brain edema and hydrocephalus so that CT scan can detect these complications early.
