Expression rate of P16, P53 and EGFR in squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva with immunohistochemical staining and correlation with outcome
Abstract
Squamous cell carcinoma of the Vulva is an important type of female genital malignancy. Prompt diagnosis and treatment would affect the prognosis and immunohistochemical staining markers are important types of contributing factors.
Objective: Accordingly in this study, the expression and prognostic role of P16, P53, and EGFR was assessed in cases with Vulva Squamous cell carcinoma who came to the Alzahra Hospital (gynecology center) of Tabriz.
Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional comparative descriptive study, 30 consecutive patients with Squamous cell carcinoma of the vulva in Alzahra Hospital in Tabriz since 2005 to 2015 were evaluated and the immunohistochemical expression and prognostic role of P16, P53, and EGFR was assessed in them.
Results: The P16, P53, and EGFR were positive in 33.3%, 100%, and 50%, respectively. The positive P16 was related to higher stage (P=0.040). There was no significant association for other factors (P > 0.05).
