Abstract
Abstract: Background and Objective: The personality and psychological balance of nurses are more important than other social classes. Nurses 'close relationship with patients and the influence they have on them plays an important role in patients' mental health. If nurses 'mental health status is identified and planned to improve their mental health, the quality of nursing care services will also improve and increase patients' satisfaction and improve their treatment process. Undoubtedly, several factors affect people's mental health. Most studies have addressed only one factor related to mental health, while a review of the literature shows that mental health is affected by several factors related to working conditions. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate the factors related to mental health in nurses working in different clinical wards. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive-correlational study in which 296 nurses working in educational and medical centers affiliated to Tabriz University of Medical Sciences were randomly selected during the year 1998-99. Data were collected using the Goldberg and Hiller Psychological Standard Questionnaire (GHQ), the Dutch Emotional Work Questionnaire (D-QEL)and the Scherer General Self-Efficacy Questionnaire, the Zimet et al and Stanford Presenteeism Scale questionnaire(SPSQ) whit Nurses' demographics. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics (i.e., t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation) in SPSS 13. Results: The mean mental health score of the nurses participating in the study was 64.38 /10 10.14. The mean score of emotional work was 33.90 63 5.63. The mean score of self-efficacy was 54.01 6 6.21 being the perceived social support score was 65.79 12 12.77 and the Presenteeism score was 19.46 37 4.37. There was a statistically significant and direct relationship between mental health score and emotional work score (p <0.001 (r = 0.23), and Presenteeism (p <0.001, r = 0.28), is with increasing emotional work score and Presenteeism score, Mental health score increased and mental disorder increased and there was a statistically significant and inverse relationship between mental health score and social support score (p <0.001, r = -0.26), is with increasing social support score, mental health score decreased and nurses' mental health. There was no statistically significant relationship between mental health and self-efficacy scores (p = 0.38, r = -0.05). Conclusion: According to the results of research on the relationship between mental health and self-efficacy, emotional work, social support and of Presenteeism nurses, it is necessary for managers and officials of the University of Medical Sciences to hold workshops and activate mental counseling centers to improve the mental health of nursing staff. Take action on the quality of nursing care and provide supportive and welfare measures and facilities for nurses to motivate and encourage nurses to provide nursing services to patients.
