Evaluation of renal toxicity due to concomitant use of fluoroquinolones and ACEs during 2015-2019 in Imam Reza Center, Tabriz
Abstract
Introduction: Fluoroquinolones are broad-spectrum antibiotics that are widely used in the hospital and there is a possibility of sudden renal failure syndrome with the concomitant use of fluoroquinolones with ACE inhibitors and ARBs In the patients admitted to Imam Reza Hospital,
Ciprofloxacin and levofloxacin are the most commonly used drugs of the fluoroquinolones antibiotics, and losartan and valsartan are the most widely used drugs, ARBs, whereas captopril and enalapril are the most used drugs in the ACEi group.
Objective: To evaluate the possibility of developing AKI by fluoroquinolones in combination with ACEs and ARBs in patients admitted to Imam Reza Hospital.
Methods: Extraction of individuals between 2015 and 2019 in the comprehensive system of Imam Reza Hospital who have used these two groups of drugs together and then by examining the creatinine of these patients and comparing the numbers and results obtained with international references We determined the percentage of patients who hade AKI, and ultimately the association between acute kidney injury and concomitant use of these drugs.
Discussion and Conclusion: Out of 12561 patients, 5226 patients who did not have AKI and 400 patients with AKI, and the probability of AKI in Imam Reza Hospital if these two groups of drugs were used simultaneously was 7.14%. Comparison with valid references of this number in comparison with the possibility of AKI in other hospitals and the possibility of AKI in case of separate use of these drugs shows a significant difference .
