Design and survey of the standpoint of faculty members of Tabriz dentistry faculty regarding the process of teachers evaluation by students in 2020
Abstract
Introduction: Evaluation is one of the most effective methods to improve the quality of the educational system, and evaluation of faculty members is one of the most important types of evaluation in the educational systems. However, in many cases, the evaluation results are criticized by the faculty members and it is acknowledged that the evaluation process of the faculty members is not able to properly reflect the strengths and weaknesses of the faculty members and may negatively affect the faculty members’ rights. Therefore, we decided to study the standpoint of faculty members of Tabriz dentistry faculty regarding the process of teachers evaluation by students in 2020.
Methods and Materials: In this cross-sectional study, first a 10-item questionnaire was designed according to the opinions of experts in the field of evaluation, including professors and members of the Office of Education Development of the School of Dentistry, and its validity and reliability was calculatied through CVR, CVI and Cronbach's alpha. Then, the questionnaire was completed by 84 faculty members of the School of Dentistry of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22 software.
Results: In this study, the validity and reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed with CVR=0.92, CVI=0.99 and Cronbach's alpha=0.91. Findings obtained from the completion of this questionnaire by the faculty members indicated that they agreed with the process of teachers evaluation by students in the dental school. From the perspective of dental school faculty members, students 'confidence in the confidentiality of information, students' confidence in the effectiveness of evaluation in increasing the quality of education, and face-to-face interviews with students in addition to other evaluation methods, had the greatest impact on student evaluation quality.
Conclusion: It is recommended that factors such as confidentiality of the faculty evaluation process, students' confidence in the effectiveness of the evaluation and face-to-face interviews with students in the faculty evaluation process be considered by students in improving the quality of the faculty evaluation process.
