Abstract
Background: Argan oil is a common ingridient in hair care products. Duo to composition and structure of argan oil , it can be used as a suitable candidate for hair protection and reduce oxidative damage. Oxidant agent,Heat, coloring can damage the hair.using oils as a pretreatment agent can reduce these damages. Purpose: Elavuating the effect of argan oil in reducing the oxidative damage to hair as a pre-treatment. Method: Hair tresses without any coloring history was selected and devided to three groups; hair tresse damaged by oxidant, hair tresses treated by argan oil and was cleaned by physical removal and then damaged by oxidant agent, hair tresses treated by argan oil and was cleaned by washing method befor being damaged by the oxidant agent. ATR spectrums were collected for each tresses. Quantitive studies of protein-loss method was done by LOWRY method. Antioxidant activity of argan oil was measured by 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. Results: The amount of Protein loss all in oil treated groups dcreeased remarkablely. ATR spectrums revealed that the oil was remained and successfully tracked even after washing process. Four peaks showd significant change after oxidation procedure and the trend was a linear line. RC50 amount(Reserve Capacity :Concentration of antioxidant agent that deactive 50% of DPPH)was measured as 59(µg/ml). Conclusion: Argan oil was effective in decreasing the hair damages caused by oxidant. The introduced ATR proceducure was able to show the damage along with the Protein loss method. ATR method is easier and faster than protein-loss test and can be utilized in similar studies.
