Correlation between Child Cancer Quality of Life with Parental Care –Giving Burden in Tabriz Children Medical and Training Center, 2011.

Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: Child Cancer has several effects on all family members. Approximately 75% of children diagnosed with cancer achieve diseases –free survival using current treatments. These sophisticated and aggressive treatments are capable of affecting children's quality of life. In the other hand, caring of children can impose large burden on the parents. Since there is no adequate and comprehensive evidence in regard child cancer quality of life and parental care –giving burden in Iran, the present study aimed to determine correlation between child cancer quality of life with parental care –giving burden. Methodology: A correlation –descriptive study had done. A total of 150 families, all eligible participated in this study. Samples were taken using convenience sampling method from patients who admitted at Tabriz children medical and training center and their families. The data collection tool was questionnaire consist of Kid –KINDL and CMS=CC. Data analysis as performed using correlative indicators such in SPSS 13. Results: Though the quality of life reported by child and parents was greater than average, parents generally report a lower QOL for their children with cancer (p<0.05). This is while some of QOL domains experienced as problematic. Total care giving burden of parents was higher than average. There was direct correlation between child quality of life and parental burden. Discussion and Conclusion: According to the present study there was direct correlation between child quality of life and parental burden, planning to decrease child quality of life by reducing parent care giving burden is necessary.
