Comparing the Effect of Mefenamic Acid and Vitex Agnus on Intrauterine Device Induced Bleeding.
Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: Increased bleeding is the most common cause of intrauterine device (IUD) removal. The use of alternative therapies to treat bleeding has increased due to the complications of medications. But most alternative therapies are not accepted by women. Therefore, conducting studies to find the right treatment with fewer complications and being acceptable is necessary. This study aimed to compare the effect of Mefenamic acid and Vitex Agnus castus on IUD induced bleeding.
Methods: This randomized, double –blind clinical trial on 84 women –health centers in the Fardis city done. Participants randomized by block into the blocks of 4 and 6 were divided into two groups: One group (control) Mefenamic acid 500 mg three times daily and the second group (intervention) at a rate of 2.2 mg Vitex Powder coating similar Mefenamic acid were measured 3 times a day for 4 months. Sealed opaque envelopes for allocation of handing behind the same numbering was used. Blind long –term planning, and the individual participants were bleeding and they were unaware of the type of treatment. Information on the demographic questionnaire and Hygam Table 5 stages (one month before treatment, during treatment, and 4 months) were collected repeated, paired t test, independent t test, chi square test, analysis of variance (ANOVA) with repeated measurements, SPSS software were used to determine the results.
Results: Mean (SD) scores of bleeding Mefenamic acid before intervention (55.38) 181.50 the fourth month (30.47) was 87.26 (p=0.001), while a mean (SD) scores of bleeding Vitex Agnus ago intervention was 171.14 (54.04) in the fourth month and receipt 89.66 (22.00) (p=0.001). The mean bleeding score changes between groups in the first quarter of intervention than before the intervention (0.33, 40.63) was 20.48, which was statistically significant, meaning (p=0.04) so that the Mefenamic acid markedly reduces bleed most of the group had five fingers, but within four months the mean changes was 16.77 (-4.37, 40.95), which was not statistically significant (p=0.11).
Conclusion: According to the study, Mefenamic acid plant Vitex are effective both in improving caused by the IUD. Mefenamic acid 52% and 48% Vitex was effective in reducing bleeding so that Mefenamic acid was more effective in the first quarter of the fourth month, there was no significant difference between the two groups.
