The Patients' Perception of Individualized Nursing Care in Teaching Hospitals of Tabriz University of Medical Science, 2010.

Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: Individualized nursing care is considered an element in quality of nursing care and converts all standardized nursing procedures and activates, adapting them to the unique peculiarity of each patient situation. One of the main reasons for advocating individualized care was the centrality of knowing the patient within the care process and individual differences among patients, in terms of their health, illnesses and needs highlight the necessity of providing individualized care. Methods: This is a descriptive study performed with participation of patients (n=400) at the medical and surgical wards in teaching hospitals of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. The proportional stratified random method was used or sampling. The data were collected by using Suhonen Individualized Care Scale (ICS) through interviews. The internal consistency was used to determine reliability. Cronbach alpha was calculated as 0.96 after content validity. The data analysis was performed by SPSS software (ver. 13.). P –value ≤0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The mean and standard deviation of patients' point of view about nurse's supports of individuality through nursing interventions was 2.60±1.14 and this amount about how patients perceived individuality in nursing care was 2.84±1.10 that indicated moderate level. Wilcoxon test showed statistical significant differences between support and perception of individuality (p<0.001). Also statistical significant differences was found between dimensions of both support and perception of individuality (p<0.001). Conclusion: With regard to findings of this study and comparison with other countries studies, we suggest that care planners considered to dimensions of individualized nursing care more than before.
