The Effect of Communication Skills Training on Quality of Care, Self –Efficacy, Job Satisfaction and Communication Skills Rate of Nurses in Hospitals of Tabriz City, 2012.

Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: Having the effective relationship with the patient in the process of treatment is essential. Nurses must be have a required knowledge and communication skills in order to establish effective relationship with the patients. Results from the studies show nurses have difficulty in establishing the relationship with patients. This study evaluated the impact of communication skills training on quality of care, self –efficacy, job satisfaction and communication skills of nurses. Methods: This study is experimental type with control group design that has been done in 2012. Sample size consisted of 73 nurses who working in hospitals affiliated to Tabriz University of Medical Sciences so that they were selected by proportional randomizing method. The study samples were allocated randomly in case and control groups and intervention was conducted only on study group. In order to measuring the quality of care was used from view of 160 patients who had received care by nurses who participated in this study. Data was collected through a questionnaire whose reliability and validity have been approved. The data were analyzed by SPSS (ver. 17). Results: Comparing the communication skills mean scores showed that there is a statistically significant difference between control and study group after intervention (t=2.74, p=0.008). The paired t test showed that there is a statistically significant difference in study group before and after intervention (t=-3.06, p=0.004). Also, independent t test showed that there is a statistically significant difference between quality of care rate in patient of control and study group after intervention (t=2.41, p=0.01). Conclusion: The results showed that the communication skills training can increase the nurse's communication skills rate and cause to elevating of nursing quality of care in patients. Therefore, in order to improve the quality of nursing care is recommended the communication skills training to be established and be taught as a separate course in nursing education by the related educational authorities.
