Abstract
Introduction: Oral cancer includes a variety of malignant neoplasms that develop in the mouth. This study aimed to evaluate the application of grape seed extract in dentistry (a systematic review).
Materials and Methods: In this systematic review study, Google Scholar, PubMed, and SCOPUS database articles from 2000 to 2020 were searched. All information was categorized in a table.
Results: In the search of a pre-clinical review study conducted in the mentioned databases and according to the considered time, 101 articles were found through the abstract that were related to the searched words. After removing duplicate titles and articles, 101 articles were selected and then reduced to 22 articles via the more detailed review by the evaluation team. Conclusion: Grape seed extract contains active compounds such as anthocyanin, proanthocyanidins and procyanidin that induce apoptosis in malignant cells. Laboratory and animal studies confirm the effectiveness of grape seed extract in the treatment of oral cancer cells. Therefore, it seems necessary the conducting clinical trial studies in the use of grape seed extract as a therapeutic supplement in the treatment of oral cancer.
