Diagnosis and management of intussusception in pediatric patients in Tabriz Children’s Hospital, Tabriz, Iran: A ten-year study
Abstract
Intussusception is one of the childhood diseases that has undergone different treatment and diagnostic methods in recent years. In order to know the best treatment and diagnostic methods, we decided to carry out the present study with the aim of reviewing the ten-year diagnosis and treatment of intussusception in children in Tabriz Children's Hospital.
Materials and Methods This retrospective study was performed in 2019 by examining the ten-year records of children referred to the Children's Hospital (Tabriz-Iran) with symptoms of intussusception; In this study, diagnostic methods, treatment methods and treatment complications were recorded in the relevant checklist; Data analysis was done by SPSS Ver21 software using Chi-square tests. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant.
Results: The two symptoms of abdominal pain and diarrhea were the most common early symptoms (61%); Ultrasound was able to provide a correct diagnosis in about 95% of cases (ileocolic). Over 90% of reductions were treated non-invasively and in cases where surgery was performed. Less than one percent of complications were seen after surgery.
