Relationship between Infertility Causes with Quality of Life and Marital Adjustment of Infertile Couples attending in Al –Zahra Hospital Educate and Tabriz, 2010.
Abstract
Abstract: Background: Infertility is a major health problem that has been recognized by the world health organization. Although it is not a disease, it can cause some emotional important disturbances. Midwives can play an important role on helping infertile women with their problems. Thus, this study presents the relationship between quality of life due to infertility and marital adjustment in infertile couples attending the infertility clinic of Al –Zahra hospital.
Methods and Marital: In 2010, a statistic study was done on 382 infertile couples with causes of female infertility (chosen randomly). At first necessary information was collected by means of three questionnaires in these parts, socio -demographic, quality of life (SF-36) and marital adjustment (Locke-Wallace). Questionnaires are self –administered, valid and reliable. Data were analyzed by using of one way ANOVA and paired t test, logistic regression.
Results: Mean age of the women were 28 and mean age of men were 32.6. Generally score of quality of life in infertile men statistically were higher than in infertile women. Average physical healthy for men (50.9±6.4 to 42.2±7.1) and also mental health for men (43.5±9.1 to 41.3±2.8) statistically were higher than the women (p<0.001). This difference was not significant in the mental dimension. There is a significant relationship between scores of quality of life and education, income, infertility age, infertility reason and female age. Also a comprehensible relationship exists between scores marital adjustment and people living in rural and people with secondary school education. There have fewer points scored compared to other groups. Average score of overall marital adjustment in the women 29-25 year age was more like that groups above 30 years. Men who earn less than 300000 to man have fewer points compared to men with more income.
Conclusion: This study shows that fertile couples have low life quality and low marital adjustment especially infertile female. It is necessary to support those couples who aren't rich and educated enough and they are in the early stages of treatment.
