Clinical Nursing Educators' Adaptation of Sociocultural Based Teaching Strategies in Tabriz & Urmia Universities' of Medical Sciences, 2010.
Abstract
Abstract: Background & Objectives: Traditional clinical education strategies have not evolved according to social changes as a result of the rapid changes in the complexity of health care delivery systems, increased technology and biomedical knowledge, a shortage in nursing faculty, and increased enrollment in schools of nursing. Scholars of clinical education suggest strategies on the basis of sociocultural theory for solving. Thereupon, adoption of sociocultural based teaching strategies studied in present survey.
Methods: This is a descriptive for which all educators in Tabriz &Urmia selected as study participants (recruit 38 nurse educators). Data were collected over a period of 2 months in 2010 using the Philips Adoption Appraisal Instrument, developed by bonk & Kim in 1998 were ranked on a 4-point Likert –type scale and ordered in ten subscales for each strategy. The data were analyzed using SPSS software version 13.0. The overall mean, standard deviation and confidence interval 95% was calculated for each subscale.
Results: All strategies were adopted as moderate adoption (2.72±0.44 of 4). Ranking adoption of sociocultural based teaching strategies including scaffolding. Questioning, managing instruction, coaching, direct instruction, articulation strategies scored as the most adopted strategies. Exploration strategy was the least adopted strategy.
Discussion & Conclusion: According to importance of SCBTS in clinical setting and moderate adoption of strategies from clinical educators, educational planner should progress adoption and usage of these strategies.
